    Blade: Koji Matsushita (+ side balancer x10)
    Forehand: Hurricane PRO2 (max thickness)
    Backhand: Spectol S1 (1.6) → Speedysoft MY (1.6)
    Weight: 184g → 186g
    Sheet feel: has grip like S1 (more speed-oriented than spin-oriented?).
    Sponge: red sponge. I expected it to be hard, but it's not that hard.
    I haven't tried chops yet so I can't say, but most other techniques feel easier and more stable than with S1.
    Even though the sponge is 7.5 degrees harder than S1, the ball still sinks in easily and it's easy to handle, so if S1 isn't stable enough for you, I think it's well worth using — in fact, worth enough that you won't regret buying it.

    Addendum: subjectively, chops travel about 30% shorter distance than with S1.
    Also, for chops, I think it's easiest to pause for a moment and push either straight down or slightly forward from there (ideally carrying it all the way through to the end of the swing in one motion).
    When mounted on a ZC, S1 became easier to use, so I think if you have a soft blade, MY is better, and if you have a hard blade, S1 gives more stable defense.
    In exchange, (as expected) stability increases.
    Also, it holds up well against humidity.

    Used black, max thickness, on the forehand
    Your swing speed translates directly into speed and spin, so it's easy to switch between a no-spin chop and a heavy chop.
    In a topspin rally, if I stopped my swing partway through, I took the full brunt of the spin and the ball flew off (probably my own lack of skill) (though if you go in intending to block from the start, it stops nicely).
    Summary
    Easy to produce the ball you're picturing
    You do feel the effect of the opponent's spin, but depending on how you receive the ball, you can avoid taking it head-on
    Spin amount is easy to control from your side

    Additional note
    The topsheet grip is clearly stronger on the V22 Double Extra.

    I came back from the Matsushita Koji ZC.
    Pure wood really does have better control after all.
    With the ZC, the feel didn't change all that much and the ball still came out with good spin, but there were times my fine touch got overridden by the blade, which made things hard to control.
    With the regular Matsushita Koji, that overriding of fine touch happens less, and I've scored more points on defense. That said, compared to the ZC it's a bit harder to blow a shot past someone in one go, but if you build up some tension and go for a full swing, I felt the difference wasn't that big.

    To reduce the effect of humidity even a little, I switched from the Provincial Hurricane III Blue Sponge (40 degrees, 2.20mm) to the HYBRID MK PRO (black, MAX).
    I'd say there's really nothing to complain about — it's like a lump of pure stability. Topspin drives have both more initial speed and more acceleration than a racket pairing an outer-ply ALC blade with Tenergy 05. That said, even though it's fast, the trajectory arcs enough that the ball lands on the table easily. Chops don't fly too far or too short either — I felt like this rubber does everything well.

  • DO Knuckle (Short pimples)

    I've used Curl P1V (1.0, 0.5), Curl P4V (1.0, 0.5), Spectol S1 (1.6), and Speedy Soft MY (1.6) before. (I mainly chop.) I'm using Do-Knuckle in medium thickness.
    If you push with a pips-style swing, it turns into a push like short pips, and you can also drive it with a pips-like feel. It doesn't have that overly dead, no-fly feeling that I got from long pips, but it also doesn't make the ball vanish like Spectol S1 does. Knuckle pushes become ridiculously easy, and from there you can smash away the resulting easy ball with your forehand's Provincial Hurricane 3 Blue Sponge (40°, 2.2mm). And if it comes down to chop versus drive, just blocking the ball back changes it enough that the opponent's drive either disappears off the table or drops straight down. Honestly, what even is this rubber.
