Yanai City Gymnasium was completed in November 1976, and its 1,500-square-metre arena was the largest main competition floor in the prefecture at the time. On 1 November 2009 Tamasu Co., Ltd. and the city of Yanai concluded a naming rights agreement and the nickname "Butterfly Arena" came into use. In recent years the "Platinum Table Tennis Tournament in Yanai", aimed mainly at senior players, has also begun, drawing entrants from across Yamaguchi Prefecture and from all over the country for keenly contested matches. The main arena (1,476.60 sq m, including 901 spectator seats) can take 20-30 table tennis courts, and a further 10 table tennis courts (also usable for large-ball table tennis) fit in the 327 sq m competition room. It also accommodates 2 basketball courts, 2 volleyball courts and 10 badminton courts. It has been operated under the designated manager system since fiscal 2008.
