I could really feel Butterfly's craftsmanship in this one. It's a rubber that seems to have eliminated the usual weaknesses of pips while boosting the strengths, letting you both attack and defend with it. That's the kind of rubber this is. The one downside is maybe that the lifespan is a bit short.

The sheet is really sensitive, so it gets affected quite a bit by the opponent's spin. That said, I feel like the average performance in terms of spin reversal and wobble is better with something like Feint Long III.
Because the sponge is unique, blocks do stay controlled, but the way it loses speed feels completely different from any rubber I've used before, so it takes some getting used to.
To begin with, the pips are hard, so when blocking with a chopping-style penhold pips setup, if you don't have enough swing speed, the ball tends to float up and doesn't cut well, which easily turns into an easy ball for your opponent.
It's also fairly heavy to begin with, so I felt like someone using a shakehand grip who can take a big swing would have more freedom with it overall.
To sum up, you could say it's just that I'm not used to it yet, and that would be fair, but even after getting past all the various sense of unfamiliarity, if you asked me to choose between this and CURL (P-1, 3α), which has a similar sponge hardness, I think I'd go with CURL.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Hard

Natto (Experience: ２〜３ years) The variation is insane

It's faster than the Ilius S, and has more variation (it's easier to produce unexpected shots). This is a long pips rubber that uses Butterfly's own proprietary Absorber Sponge Drop. Thanks to that sponge, the pips tend to fold over easily.
That said, it's less stable than the Ilius S, so I'd want someone with good control skills to be the one using it.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Hard

Shakehand player with backhand pips (Experience: ２〜３ years) The strongest manual-type pips

Used on the backhand of a shakehand blade.
Push: A plain push comes out as a knuckleball and is easily affected by the opponent's spin.
Sliding it sideways makes it more stable.
The reverse-spin effect is subtle.Block: This is insane. It stops the ball incredibly well. Even the opponent's heavy topspin drives get stopped without any trouble. That said, unlike a "glass" sponge rubber that cuts the ball just by making contact, you have to actively cut it yourself for it to have that effect.
The reverse-spin effect is decent, but the trajectory just dies dead.Flat hit: This pips rubber is highly rated for its flat-hitting performance, but I didn't get a great impression from it since the trajectory rises too much and it's easily affected by the opponent's spin. That might just be because I don't usually do many flat hits myself, though.
Other: Chops and chop-style short shots are quite easy to put in, and they come in with good cutting sharpness. Even someone like me who has no real feel for chopping found it easy to land. That said, keeping the ball low was difficult.
Overall: A pips rubber that feels like it has the potential to do everything. I think it's easy enough for beginners to use, but it would be especially strong in the hands of someone who's stopped winning with automatic-style pips and needs something different.

I'm having fun with the 0.5mm Ilius B.
You can attack really well with it. It's similar to short pips in that way.
Hitting the ball or blocking a chop easily can result in some really fast shots.
It's a different kind of rubber - not your typical long pips.

In a word, this is a long pips rubber that can do everything. It brilliantly overcomes the usual weaknesses of long pips. You can really tell Butterfly put a huge amount of research time into this. It's a rubber I'd love for choppers and unorthodox all-round players to try. I want to try the Ilius S too.
