It felt like a wood blade's touch with a bit of extra bounce added.

It's hard, but you can do both brushing strokes and sinking-the-ball strokes with it, so it's great for a backhand where you use lots of different techniques.
Chiquitas and similar shots are also easy to add variation to, which is nice.
