Using the Kakumaru with K3 rubber on one side - this combination brings out each other's flaws. The blade is 3-ply, but it's designed with speed, catapult effect, and ball-holding all in mind, so at first glance it seems flawless. However, while it does bring out the character of the individualistic K3 MAX rubber, expecting it to pull out only the good points of that wild, tacky tension rubber is asking too much. You need high power, spin, and balance to pull it off. Every time you miss, you'll probably find yourself wondering whether it's how you're handling the Calmare blade or how you're handling the K3 rubber. If you can see that as part of the fun, I think you're guaranteed to improve.
