The Taiwan acacia surface ply is on the harder side, and the ball comes off noticeably faster than the SWAT, another 7-ply blade. As you use it more, it absorbs some moisture and settles into just the right feel, after which it becomes very easy to use. For an all-wood blade it generates a lot of speed, so max-thickness rubber might make it fly too much. Overall it's a high-quality blade and I think it's worth the price.
