NO.1 table tennis review site

I think this is one of the earliest German tension rubbers. Note that this review is from the celluloid ball era.
I used it back when it was new and novel. As for characteristics, the whole rubber is soft, and while I wouldn't say the bounce is low, it was decent enough. This was during the celluloid era, so spin was possible, but it was hard to generate with my swing — actually, I couldn't really get it to bite at all. On the other hand, angle hitting was surprisingly stable. Blocking was fine for single-course drills, but when I got moved around, it often wasn't stable — the angle of the racket face and how much force to put in were both demanding for my level, though better players might be able to pull off all kinds of blocks with it. The short game isn't impossible, but it's so soft that the initial speed is low and there's no real feel left in my hand, so I was often left wondering, why did that go in? Why didn't that go in? There have been a lot of downsides so far, but it does have the flick, moderate bounce, and softness that short pips on the backhand need, so if you go with a thinner sheet, it might suit backhand short pips.

Used on a penhold blade with 1.8mm, short pips.
Back in my student days I used it with speed glue and it was too soft, no good.
I assumed it had been discontinued, but then I found it again. Paired it with a 7-ply blade.

[Overall]
It's on the softer side among short pips rubbers, but it has a wonderfully firm feel to it. Light shots don't fly much, but swing hard and it's fast. It gives you a wider range of play than celluloid-style short pips. Even with a slightly closed racket angle, it feels like you can use the sweet spot to the fullest.

[Speed]
The stability on angled shots against backspin is outstanding. It flies fairly straight but with a bit of an arc, so it's easy to aim for the end line.

[Spin]
Low, high-spin loop drives become a real weapon. A closed-racket speed drive also has good power.

[Knuckle]
A normal hit doesn't produce one. But if you loop the ball up and then punch it in, you get a real dead knuckleball. Surprising for horizontal pips.

[Serve]
It bites the ball incredibly well. Even long serves get topspin, so the speed is excellent.

[Receive, short game]
For some reason it's a little slippery, which gives it great stability and it's affected by the opponent's spin less than you'd expect. Stops and flicks are very easy.

[Weaknesses]
If you try to hit like you would with a Vo102 or SA — expecting power even off the table — the ball won't clear the net. This is really a close-to-the-table, fast-attack rubber.

Used on my B-side (backhand).
When you hit it, the ball comes in sharp with a straight trajectory, and even if you take it late you can still get good spin and send it deep.
On blocks, you can get a lot of variation — extending the ball, dead-stopping it, or turning it into a knuckleball.
When rallying with consecutive backhands, mixing spin balls and knuckleballs well lets you break the opponent's rhythm quite a bit, and they'll often net the ball soon after.
It's not a short pips rubber that stands out for extreme speed or constant knuckleballs, but it can do a bit of everything — used well, it lets you play in a way that really bothers your opponent.
It doesn't seem to be very well known, but it's a good rubber.
As a side note, I personally love the red color of this rubber, haha.
