Penhold pips-out. I switched from a Nittaku vertical-pip rubber. Vertical-pip rubbers can be tricky in humid conditions or when you hit the ball late, but this rubber doesn't slip and grips the ball just enough to give you confidence, and blocking especially is very stable. If you just make contact, it goes in a high percentage of the time. For recreational-level play, the speed and bounce are more than enough. It doesn't produce knuckle balls automatically, but if you push through the ball a bit you can flatten the trajectory - it's really up to your skill. I want to keep using this for a while, so I hope it doesn't get discontinued.

I use the medium-thick version. It's a vertical-pip rubber, but the pips are on the larger side, and I feel it can generate about as much spin as Moristo SP among vertical-pip rubbers.
It also produces a lot of knuckle balls, and opponents say it's hard to deal with.I've been using it on a 5-ply all-wood blade, and I find it's a rubber that's easy to control
with high overall performance.If you prefer a softer rubber, I'd recommend giving this one a try.

I put this on for chopping, but I could use it with basically the same feel as inverted rubber, honestly.
Being short pips, sometimes I could switch from receiving straight into a forehand smash. Felt great.
When receiving, I could use the opponent's spin to wrap the ball up and drop a stop short to the forehand side.
Adding a bit of topspin lets you attack nicely straight off the receive.
Pushes were a little hard to put spin on, so it depends on how you use it.
The main thing, chopping, was ridiculously easy. Just watch out for brushing too much though.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little soft

It's vertical pips, but if you can get the ball to grip, you can chiquita with it. It's a rubber known for its blocking, and since it doesn't bounce too much, you almost never miss long.

The ball leaves the rubber unbelievably fast. It's gone before the opponent's serve or chop spin can really affect it, so it catches people off guard.

For a speed-oriented short pips rubber, it's quite soft.
The ball also leaves it slowly, so I felt it lacked power unless paired with a harder blade.
Serving was also tricky — if you try to brush the surface, the ball sinks in oddly and the spin doesn't really pick up.
However, it was surprising how insensitive it is to incoming spin — I could smash even a nasty, heavily-spun chop with ease.
You can smash straight through a chopper's ball without even needing a loop drive.
I personally prefer rubbers where the ball leaves quickly, so this wasn't quite my thing, but I felt it has genuinely all-round performance.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Soft

Bought the black, thick version for penhold.
The pip shape is roughly a 1:1 mix of cylindrical and trapezoidal. The fabric weave is solid. The sponge is a bit hard with good firmness.Speed is average, for better or worse.
It gets a decent amount of spin and the ball traces a slight arc. That said, it's still no match for spin-oriented rubbers, and returning a drive with a drive of your own just isn't possible.
On backhand blocks it produces a slight knuckle effect, and pushing straight through from behind the ball gives a nice knuckle ball.Pushes don't slip, but the spin is average.
Stops hold well.
Flick-type techniques are easy thanks to the hardness of the sponge.Blocks settle nicely and are easy to control yourself. The ease of blocking was the most impressive thing on my first time hitting with it.
Counters are also easy. The combination of a harder sponge and a topsheet that doesn't slip much worked well for me, since I like to counter by timing a flat hit. Overly aggressive counter-drives do slip, though.Overall, this is a fairly orthodox pick among balanced tension-type short pips. It's quite close to Booster HP. If there's a difference, it's that Symmetry settles better on blocks, while Booster HP still reaches the opponent's side even when you can't get a strong hit in.
Personally, I'd have liked a slightly harder sponge.
