This came already attached to the backhand of the racket I bought right after starting table tennis. It has a reputation for having a soft sponge that's easy to control, but the ball flies off quite a bit, so while it was easy to practice stepping back and blocking the opponent's hard shots, I found it very hard to generate my own spin and attack with it. Maybe because it's light and cheap it's marketed toward beginners, but it actually feels like it has a fairly distinct character, so these days I think it's more of a rubber that intermediate players pick for a specific purpose rather than something for beginners.

Switching over from a modern high-elasticity rubber like Ventus Basic, the first thing I noticed was "it lifts!" The ball just goes up, and the spin comes on steadily too. I think the reason it gets such high praise is that you can feel this quality — clearly a cut above your typical beginner rubber — at such an affordable price. Since it lifts the ball up so consistently, it makes sense that it's recommended for the reverse side of a penhold blade, where shots tend to drop.
I think it's a really good rubber for anyone who wants to stabilize their play in matches. That said, maybe because both the sponge and the sheet are soft, when I rallied on the forehand with a skilled player, even someone as unskilled as me could feel the energy loss. If you're at the level of trading hard shots at the top, you'll probably need something a step above this. It's very close in both price and character to Gambit, which is also made by TSP. According to the spec numbers, Ventus Basic leans more toward spin and Gambit leans more toward speed, but I doubt beginners would really notice much of a difference. Either way, it has a good balance of spin, speed, and control, so it's a safe rubber to recommend to beginners. It's cheap too.

I think this is an OX rubber that's un-flashy in a good way. Even someone bad at the game (that's me) can handle it, and if a skilled player uses it, they seem to be able to play a wide range of shots. With my own skill level I can't produce huge variation, but I can play consistently from serve receive to stops to attacking. It's the kind of rubber where you can stop the ball decently and hit it decently. As a long pips OX rubber, I think it's really well balanced. On the flip side, it might feel lacking for someone who wants a sharp, standout strength.
It's cheap, and unlike a normal OX rubber, it's easy to glue on. I think the value for money is really high, so if you're about to seriously get into long pips, I don't think you'll lose anything by trying it.Overall Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

I used this on my forehand right after I started playing table tennis. It's very cheap, but it hits reasonably well, gets a reasonable amount of spin, and offers reasonable control. Nothing stands out, but overall it feels like it's at a consistent level across the board. It's also lightweight, so you can hit it satisfyingly even without much power, so I think it could be a good option as the first rubber to hand a beginner.
