First of all, I think this penhold single-ply blade
is a gem that can satisfy
everyone from beginners to veteran players.
    The bounce is really good.
    And yet it's very light,
so you can freely go from
the short game all the way to power drives.
    For rubbers, I tried Yasaka's
    Mark V and Rigan Spin,
    and for beginners the high-elasticity
Mark V seems to work well.
A tension rubber bounces too much,
so a more restrained one like the Rigan series is probably better.

It's a bit tricky to handle, so it
might take some time to get used to.
    It's a bit like a wild horse,
and honestly that's part of its charm.

I've been playing table tennis for over 30 years,
and I've been looking for a racket to finally make my shakehand debut, of all things at this point.
Then I found the Swat Carbon on sale cheap.
I'd been interested in carbon rackets for a while, so I bought it right away.
For rubbers, I went from Fly Atspin on both sides to VENTUS Extra max thickness on the forehand
and Agrit max thickness on the backhand.
I'm sure the rubber pairing plays a part, but it bounces more than I expected.
Since I remember the days of single-ply blades, I do wish it were a bit softer.
The value for money is the best.

Switched from the Yasaka Mark V to the Raygun Spin.
It's a bit harder than the Mark V.
Since it's on the backhand side of a one-sided Japanese penhold blade, it bounced more than I expected on shorts and blocks, so I kept overshooting.
This was my first tension rubber, so it'll probably take a bit more time to get used to it.

I put this on both sides of my Swat Carbon. I found it while looking for a cheap spin-oriented tension rubber.
A lot of reviews say the ball holds well and spins a lot, but in my experience the ball didn't hold well at all. Maybe it's the racket compatibility, but my forehand drives end up looking like smashes. The speed is decent, but I keep getting countered. It's relatively stable on the backhand.

I started playing table tennis again after 30 years.
While looking for a rubber to match my 10mm Japanese penhold blade,
a nostalgic rubber caught my eye.
Back in the day, pretty much everyone used either Mark V or Sriver — those were basically the only options.
These days it seems to be seen as a beginner's rubber, but…
I decided to go back to basics and chose Mark V.
It hits normally, but felt harder than I expected.
For hitting the plastic ball, a slightly softer rubber might have been the better choice.
