When I switched to a defensive style, I put the then-current Curl P1R on my backhand. (Until then, I had been using inverted rubber on both sides.)
It was my first time using long pimples, but I got used to it without too much trouble.
While rubbers with shorter pimples are probably easier to handle, I think that if you start with this rubber, you'll acquire the skills to use any long pimple rubber effectively.
It produces a lot of variation, and I think it's a good rubber.

I used this back when I was a defensive player (cutman).
Personally, I preferred it to Tackiness because it was easier to generate spin with it. (At the time, I felt its spin performance was better than the catalog specifications.)
However, when I tried using this rubber after the introduction of plastic balls, I found it didn't generate much spin or power...
    My racket was a Cutlass.
In modern table tennis, it's probably considered something like a toy racket with a few upgrades.
However, I think its control is outstanding.

I switched from a shakehand grip to a Chinese penhold grip.
I originally mainly used a shakehand racket designed for defensive players, so I was looking for a racket with a moderate bounce and chose this one.
I also tried the Hadraw VR-CS, but that one was quite a finicky racket.
This one feels more natural to swing and the ball goes in easily, requiring less fine adjustment.
