NO.1 table tennis review site

I'm playing a close-to-the-table blocker style with Spectrum S1 (thin) on my forehand and Cobalt α on my backhand, both mounted on a Gouriki blade.

This rubber really makes you think of a musical instrument, like a trumpet. Just hitting it a little, it's not even easy to place the ball where you're aiming.

But once you get a feel for the slipperiness and bounce and learn how to use it, it suddenly shows its real power.
On top of dead-stop stops and knuckle blocks, once you can use a backhand meet-hit too, you get these terrifyingly fast-releasing knuckle balls that shoot in a straight line right into the opponent's court. Almost nobody can handle it the first time they see it.

Flicks are easy to do, so it's easy to seize the initiative even off a receive, and against opponents who like to swing big inverted-rubber-on-both-sides tension shots from mid-distance while chanting "arc, arc," it won't let them play their own game.

"Prioritize making it hard for your opponent to hit over making it easy for yourself."
"Be prepared to stick with this rubber for at least a year."
"Have a practice partner willing to put up with balls that are hard to hit."
If that's the kind of person you are, it's definitely worth taking on the challenge.

It's meant as a defensive rubber, but it flies like crazy. Just a light meet hit and you get a fast, knuckle-ball type shot.
The performance is good enough that it wouldn't be surprising if it sold for around 3000 yen...
If you don't have much money but want to switch to short pips, definitely give this a try.

I'm a backhand-pips chopper and I have this on my backhand.

It's only a rubber in the ¥1000 range, but this rubber is the best!
The pips are low and hard, so at first glance it doesn't look like it would put much spin on the ball,
but for pushes, blocks, and chops, you can easily mix in both heavy cut and knuckle balls.
Start off receiving with knuckle balls, and once your opponent gets used to that, send a cut ball and you can score straight off the serve-receive.
Also, the push produces a super knuckle ball that takes the opponent time to line up their racket for, so use it at key moments. You can score points with it even without aiming for a specific course!!

Also, drives, smashes, and blocks are easy to vary in power and length, really showing off what it can do as a short pips rubber.
Whether you hit it flat or brush it, you still get a decent amount of spin.
I can't do the chiquita myself, so I'm not sure, but I bet this rubber can handle it.

I'm an attacking player, but I found this cheap option for messing around with chopping in my spare practice time, so I bought it.
I only chop for fun, but it goes in consistently.
It doesn't put much spin on the ball.
The pips are on the hard side, so I think you could get more spin if you have good swing speed.
There's no sponge either, so it doesn't bounce much - I'd recommend it for beginner choppers.

I'm a chopper, and I have it on my backhand.
If I chop hard, I can put a good amount of spin on the ball and make the opponent think it's not spinning, drawing a net mistake, and if I return it without cutting, it comes back with almost no spin, which draws an overshoot mistake.
I often hit balls that land short on my backhand side, and with a nice crisp feeling, I can easily place the ball to different courses.

This is a funny rubber lol I bought it just for fun. It might be good for people who don't want to spend money on table tennis - purely in terms of value for money it's fine.
But yeah, it's not suited for people who play seriously, like in a club team lol
It's kind of a "sort of usable...?" type of rubber
I can't really recommend it, but if you want to feel the history of table tennis or you're interested in old-school rubbers, it might be worth trying. I think it's decent enough for beginners getting into short pips chopping.
