I borrowed it from a friend who uses a Chinese penhold blade and tried it out. Since I don't play penhold pips myself, I only tested blocking and pushing.
Apparently it makes aggressive play easy. And it comes flying back with this creepy knuckleball effect lol

I'm a chopper who normally chops with an attacking blade. As for chopping, once you chop the ball, the variation just kind of happens on its own, and knuckle balls are easy to produce. Whether it's spinny or a knuckle, the ball wobbles nicely, so I'd recommend this for choppers too. It does fly a bit more than expected (maybe because of the Inner Force blade), so you'll need some time to adjust. Might pair well with the Defensive Classic.

You can pull off any technique easily, and the ball even goes in using the same strokes as with inverted rubber.
It's extremely consistent, and you get a huge amount of variation too.
For thickness, the extra-thin version might be the most stable.
I've never seen long pips that make topspin drives, loop drives, and smashes this easy to pull off.

You can pull off a lot of different shots easily, so as the title says, it really expands your range of techniques.
Since it's a hard rubber, I think its main feature is that it lets you return backspin as backspin and topspin as topspin relatively easily, which is normally hard with long pips.
(That said, you do need a certain level of swing speed and spin production to pull this off.)
Because of that, it's easy to attack a long serve or a ball that floats to your backhand, or to loop backspin balls. Chopping and pushing are also fully doable.On the other hand, I wouldn't really recommend using it for the kind of heavy variation or high-quality blocking that's meant to force opponent errors.
Overall, I think this rubber really shows its value when you're aiming for specific courses or throwing off your opponent's reads.

The manufacturer says it's meant for close-to-the-table unorthodox play, but I think choppers can use it just fine too.

I originally used short pips on my backhand, but after trying a bunch of different rubbers I ended up with the Ilius.
Maybe because the pips are hard, it's honestly easier to attack with than a variation-type pips rubber, and the ease of hitting flat shots is especially impressive.
On the other hand, pushes and chop blocks seem more affected by incoming spin than with normal pips, so they felt harder and needed some getting used to and practice.
It's not a rubber that automatically creates variation just by touching the ball. That said, maybe thanks to the Absorb sponge, it's still easy to keep the ball on the table, which really shows Butterfly's quality.In conclusion, I think this is a rubber where you handle the pips-specific techniques manually, and it's excellent in terms of ease of hitting. It's also easy to use for beginners to pips.

I mounted the Ilius B on an old TSP Yi Yong Fan Extra (a medium-speed blade)
FH: Friendship 729-08 Max Black
BH: Butterfly Ilius B 1.5 Red
This rubber does what Butterfly says it does. Whatever it's meant to do, it does it very well. Punch. Depth. It's fine for a few chops here and there, but this isn't really a chopping rubber. Get the Ilius S instead (or Feint Long 2 or 3).All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard
