- The long pimple rubber another dimension

Naturally this long pimple rubber with ITTF homologation (with friction) offers only little spin reversal.
Nevertheless it does produce a considerable disruptive effect on account of a completely new and innovative rubber composition which changes the playing characteristics decisively.
Both the version without sponge (OX) and the version with sponge (0.6 and 1.0mm) are very effective for chop-blocking close to the table. Also the ball can be blocked passively or aggressively against topspin through a sort of push-blocking technique where the ball is being “pushed down” while holding the bat in a rather closed angle.
Furthermore the ball can be kept short over the net for service returns even against fast services with no spin on it at all. The ball bounces very low and even moves backwards to the net. The version with sponge (especially with 0.6mm) enables a more dynamic service returning and thus also provides a good disruptive effect. This also holds true while returning services with a lot of spin since this makes the ball float.
Also the ball bounces very low while counter-attacking.
On top of that the rubber enables highly disruptive attacking shots through aggressive pushing, lifting and sidespin strokes.
Finally DESPERADO is a good choice for chopping too since the ball can be returned very flat with good backspin or alternatively as a float ball.
Put pressure on your opponent, play with DESPERADO!

This is the rubber that's even been featured by a certain overseas specialty table tennis shop.
People say it has no bounce, but I think the pips are actually quite aggressive, and if anything it has above-average bounce for a pips rubber.
Compared to other rubbers, the pips lay over more easily, and it feels more focused on sharp spin than on knuckle effects. For a chopper, it's really easy to chop on the backhand and immediately follow up with a two-push once it gets stopped. The chops also have sharp spin and sink slowly, which makes them hard for attacking players to return.
It's a very high-performance rubber, but it's expensive, and the durability isn't great — the pips seem to come loose fairly easily.
I think this is for advanced players, and really more for top-level players.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Soft

Trying this out on my Matsushita Kouji blade, switching over from the Curl P-1.
The variation on chops and blocks is bigger than with the Curl P-1, but in terms of stability the Curl P-1 felt more reassuring (the Desperado seemed to have more rebound than the Curl P-1).
Pushes also felt bouncier than with the Curl P-1, so I had more misses, but when it landed, a clubmate commented, "that's coming in flatter than before."
Since the variation is bigger, I felt that once you get used to it and find the knack, it could become a real threat to your opponent.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

My impression of using these pips was that if Glass D-Tecs is for attacking choppers, then the Desperado is more for variation-style choppers. I've never used the Glass D, but the great thing about the Desperado is that the more stable your chop gets, the crazier the spin becomes. The chopped ball comes out a bit slow, so I wonder if the fact that it's slow yet spinny makes it more likely to confuse the opponent.
If you mix in knuckle balls with that slow, spinny chop, I think it would confuse your opponent.
I'd like people who want to win with variation from pips, or people who felt the Glass wasn't quite right for them, to give this a try.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little soft

I used Curl P1 for two years before switching to this Desperado, and what I noticed is that the P1 flies with an arcing trajectory, whereas the Desperado goes straight and the ball speed is on an insane level.
Just blocking normally puts crazy spin on it. When I blocked a hard hit like a topspin drive, so much spin got on the ball that it came back at me lol lol
After using it, my thought is that you should first use a beginner-friendly long pips rubber (like the Curl series) before moving to this.

I mainly used Curl P4
so I'll review this in comparison to that.The pips are much harder than the P4.
The chop is brutal.
Because it's hard, it flies straight like short pips.
But then it drops sharply afterward.
It's like the trajectory of a baseball forkball,
so I think chops go in pretty easily.It's less affected by spin than the P4.
So when you brush it, it slips,
which means you can't do drive-like shots
the way you can with the P4, so it lacks a bit of stability.
Pushes are also basically impossible.The bounce is stronger than the P4.
I'd heard it was low-elasticity,
but it flew quite a bit.
So counter-hitting is quite easy to do.
That said, as long as you don't move the racket,
you can block well enough to keep it on the table.Returns come back lower than with the P4.
Overall, it's more true to what pips should feel like.
The P4 might have
more stability,
but if you master this one it could be nasty.
Close to the table, it's for intermediate to advanced players.For choppers,
even beginners should use this.

The variation is strong. It's really easy to use your opponent's own spin against them to shake them up on the return. In fact, I've gotten a lot of receive aces with reverse-chiquita-style returns. And the chop is fantastic too! If you get low and relax your body properly when you chop, the ball digs in sharply on the opponent's side. That said, I think some people find their chops floating up in actual matches. But because the variation is so strong, just blocking back a topspin drive puts a lot of variation on the ball. Even lob-ish balls can cause the opponent to miss, which really helps. The downside is that the rubber wears out easily, but it's a rubber that brings out the characteristics of pips fully while still being easy to use, so even though it's pricey, I hope you'll take good care of it and give it a try.

It's easy to stop topspin drives short. Also, the ball comes back wobbling with heavy spin, so it made it easier to draw out a controlled topspin drive from my opponent rather than a hard hit. And yet it's a rubber that pushes hard too. Recommended for close-to-the-table pips-out (unorthodox) players.
