Some penhold short-pips player I know was using this. Watching him play, the variation was enough to make me think, "oh, that guy must be using penhold long pips." When I actually tried it myself, it doesn't vary as much as long pips, but it's unsettlingly hard to play against. The blocks have bite, they go to nasty spots, and they land in reliably. Trying to get past that guy wasn't straightforward at all. If you're thinking about going the "variation" route, start with this one.

I used the super-extra-thin version for chopping, and it felt like a hard, bouncy long pips rubber. That said, the control was good, and it was far easier to keep the ball in check than with other short pips. Also, because the pips are firm and have good grip, pushes and chops bite in well too. It's great that you get both the sharp chops typical of long pips and the knuckle balls unique to short pips. However, with the super-extra-thin version, attacking isn't all that easy, and the short game like pushes bounces more than with long pips, so it might take a bit of getting used to. Still, the feel doesn't change all that dramatically, so I'd recommend it to choppers thinking about switching from long pips to short pips.

Easy to add variation to your pushes, and chops come out with a flat, straight trajectory!
Also easy to attack straight off a push
The feel is closer to long pips than short pips. If a push floats up, you can finish it off with a backhand, so it's easy to use!
You can confuse your opponent with sidespin pushes and force mistakes. All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

The name really kills your motivation to buy it. When I actually tried it, it was hard to use at first, but once I got used to it, both attacking and chopping became easy.

This is the first time I've used short pips on my backhand for chopping, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I felt it had about as much variation as the long pips I used before.

True to its name, it produces a ton of knuckle balls. At the same time, it's also similar to long pips. Chops bite in nicely too. And like a typical short pips, you can attack with it as well. Honestly, I thought it was a really nasty (in a good way) rubber.
