This long pimpled rubber owes its unique playing qualities to a combination of an extremely soft sponge and the specially developed long pimpled top surface.
Spike P2 with soft sponge increases control when back spinning close to the table and facilitates surprise attack and variation, which can disturb the opponent. The specially designed structure of the pimples makes it possible for the modern defender to employ all the strokes necessary for top play.

Shiono, who used the Curl P4, was apparently involved in developing this one, so I'll compare it to the P4. At first glance it looks just like the P4. But the pips are slightly harder than the P4's, and the feel on impact is a bit harder too. The variation and bite on chops and pushes, plus the control and stability, are about the same level. One difference though — the Spike P2 has a bit more grip on the ball's surface. Thanks to that grip you can really chop for knuckleballs, and since the pips are slightly harder than the P4's, it was better for handling light shots too. Attacking also has that same gripping feel, so personally I found it easy to use. When it comes to long pips for choppers, the Curl and Feint are the classics, but since Shiono was involved in developing this one and uses it himself, it holds its own — a good rubber.

It wobbles. It's slow, so it's easy to mess up. It's easy to control down and gets good spin on it too — suited to a delayed-attack style chopper.

Pushing is really easy with this one — personally I liked it better than the P4.
But the variation is bigger than the P4's, so it's a little less stable.

Let me compare it to the Gras D-tecs. In terms of attacking performance, the Gras is probably better. The Spike P2 is more suited to players who want stability and solid defense.

I'm currently using this. When you really chop, it changes a lot.
I think it's easy to attack with too — pushes and backhand drives have a really high scoring rate.
Also, former Japan national team player Masato Shiono used this during his playing career, so I think it's a pretty easy rubber to handle.
