For anyone starting out in table tennis,
I always recommend the Korbel first.A lot of middle schoolers start with a beginner blade,
find it's not enough,
and suddenly jump to a special-material blade,
but I think you should really
use a blade like this from the start.
It's a genuinely good blade you can use for a long time.A lot of people mention the weight, but to begin with, it's normal
to start with a soft rubber,
not max thickness,
and after that, as your skill and strength improve, you can just change the rubber
and keep using the same blade indefinitely.There are even top players who change their grip
but keep the Korbel as their blade,
so you shouldn't underestimate it.You can produce really heavy balls with a lot of spin,
and the weight also works in your favor
so you won't get overpowered.If I had to point out a downside,
it would be that you can't choose the grip,
and the sweet spot is
just a little on the narrow side.Other than that, I have no complaints.

I'd been curious about it for a while,
but I kept ending up reaching for other rubbers instead,
so I'd never actually used it.
I think there are quite a few people like that, actually.
I was the same way, but I finally bought it.In a word: I wish I'd used it sooner.
It's a completely different animal from the rest of the Ventus lineup.
The performance is really high.Both speed and spin are good, and it's wonderfully easy to handle too.
The hardness isn't rock-hard or brittle-feeling either —
it sinks in naturally in a nice way.The serves bite well too.
So yeah, it's all good things somehow.
If I had to pick something, it'd be the weight,
but when you weigh that against the performance,
the good points clearly win out.Looking just at quality and price, it's honestly strange that this hasn't become a huge hit.
The package design, the Ventus brand, TSP's position in the market, the marketing — I guess that combination just didn't click with the market well.Such a waste.

This is the MAX version on my forehand.
It didn't take much time to
get used to it at all.
It's easy to use.Even when my form breaks down a bit,
drives still land reasonably
consistently.
It feels more like speed than spin.It produces a fast ball that
just zips through, so if the
placement lines up, your scoring rate
should go up.The downside might be how long it lasts.
Right after opening it, while it
still has that shine, it
performs great, but after about two weeks
the shine goes away,
and once it starts looking dull,
the sharpness on serves drops off,
and along with that, I had to
adjust my third-ball swing.It's cheaper than Tenergy, but
if it declines after just two weeks,
it's a bit of a tough call financially.360 yen a day. How you take that is up to you...

A junior high boy I know bought this racket
and had a kind of mixed reaction,
so I borrowed it, hit with it, and asked him about it.According to him, he lost the ability to hit topspin drives.
Honestly, reaching for this racket before he could hit a solid drive in the first place was the real problem.
Once you're at an intermediate level, it's not that hard to handle,
but the specs are tough for beginners.The grip is thin, and yes,
it does look easy to hold for girls or junior high kids, but otherwise it's for intermediate to advanced players.He apparently talked his parents into buying it for him, so he can't really admit it's not working out, so I guess I'll help him build up his power and technique!

Right after I put it on the blade and picked it up
, at that stage already
I felt "oh, this might be tough for me" —
the weight was heavier than
I expected. You'll probably need
a certain amount of power.That said, the spin performance is amazing.
Serves in particular have a strong immediate effect,
and my ace rate on sharply cut backspin serves
shot way up.With topspin drives, if your form is set up right,
you get a heavy ball.
Whenever I felt like "oh, that one was really sharp,"
it almost never came back.But because it's hard, even a slightly loose swing
turns into a weak, spinless ball,
giving the opponent a chance.Its strength is spin.
Its challenges are weight and hardness.I'd like to get good enough
to really use it well,
