For drives, since the topsheet is on the harder side, brushing the ball gives more stability. That said, if you have good swing speed, even sinking the ball in or hitting it flatter still produces a ball with good extension.
I'd recommend it for an intermediate player's forehand, but
it also grips well on the backhand, and pushes come out sharp, so it's quite versatile.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

This is one of XIOM's signature rubbers.
It's celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
Even though it's a rubber from 10 years ago, the performance is amazing.
You can put it on your backhand and still loop drive fine.
Of course it works on the forehand too, but
the backhand is where its performance really shines.
Even though it's an old rubber, that performance hasn't faded at all.
Stops hold firmly, and you can also do a sharp, spinny push.
Basically I think you can do anything you need in the short game.
It handles modern table tennis's chiquita with ease too.
If you're a Vega series user, definitely give this one a try.

I put it on both sides.
On the forehand it has power, the ball comes off fast, and the speed is there.
But it might be tough to add spin with a speed drive.
Loops do have spin though.
On the backhand, the ball didn't come up well, so it was tricky.

Vega Pro has a sponge hardness of 47.5 and a fairly hard topsheet too, so it does have speed.
But maybe because the sheet is stretched pretty tight, the ball often didn't grip and just flew off flat, without much arc, on a straight trajectory.
Also, for a player with a strong impact like me, the center of the rubber went smooth and slick in less than two months, so I felt this isn't really a rubber for players who hit hard.
People who don't hit as hard, or who generate their power through spin, might get more life out of it.
That said, since it's a German rubber, I felt it works better if you hit it more with a meeting-the-ball style.
Vega Pro is low-priced, gives you speed, and is a really good rubber for players who can already generate spin.

I've got the max thickness version on the forehand of my Chinese penhold.
My ideal style is hitting a strong ball that flies straight, and this rubber is a perfect match for that.
It suits an attacking style where you block and drive from mid-distance, then smash away any chance ball.
I'm not great at trading shots from further back, but even from there the topspin rallies feel stable.

I used this on my backhand. I thought it'd be pretty hard and harsh, but flat hitting on the backhand was really easy, and my backhand actually turned from a weakness into a weapon. I also used it on my forehand for a while, and it gripped the ball well and gave a nice arcing trajectory. The bounce is on the mild side, so hitting it firmly gets the ball through properly, and the mild bounce also made stops and short-game shots easy to control when I hit it softly. Over the table, flicks were really easy thanks to the rubber's hardness, and I could get good power on them too. Backhand flicks were also easy to control, but brushing the ball didn't produce enough bounce so it was actually harder to use that way - hitting it flat felt better. Chiquita worked well too since it still gave good control even when I hit it firmly. I'm using Omega 5 Tour DF now, but Vega Pro is way easier to hit flat with.

Get it (Experience: More than ２０ years) A flexy blade feels nice

Since it's hard, the short game and stop shots are easy to do. The ball releases a bit quickly, so a blade with more flex works better. That said, the weight is sumo-grand-champion class, so using it on both sides might be tough. I use it on my forehand. It offers great value for money, so if Tenergy or Dignics are a stretch for your budget, this can give you a similar feel. The strength of the topsheet is appealing, and the lifespan is on the longer side. I don't think it's a bad idea to give it a try.
