      Spin bites really well, and the metallic sound when you chop is impressive. It's harder than I expected, so if you're used to a soft rubber it'll probably take some time to adjust, but once you do, I think it's the best rubber out there for choppers.

      I switched from VICTAS's V>01 to VS>401, and the stability on my chops is amazing!!
      I use 2.0mm sponge with the Koji Matsushita Offensive, and I basically never get overshoot misses.
      Chopping smashes, which was tough with V>01, has gotten a lot easier. It's almost like the rubber absorbs the power of the ball.
      Since I'd been using V>01, the speed and spin felt a bit lacking at first, but the control on chops more than made up for it. The speed, spin, and sharpness of chops when attacking are a step below V>01, but I don't think the speed and spin of VS>401 itself are lacking.
      If you put your full strength into a smash, the speed is quite impressive, and if you put a lot of spin on, your opponent will even net the ball. But what this rubber is really about, above all, is control. Even chopping from an awkward position, the cut ball stays low and lands in the opponent's court; for lobs, you can easily do the sidespin lobs that European players use, and counterattacks from far behind the table land reliably too.
      This isn't an attacking rubber or a defensive rubber — it's a chopper's rubber built for the all-around style Koji Matsushita envisioned.

      At 1.5mm thickness, I think it's good paired with the Matsushita Offensive for a chop-focused style.
      At 1.8mm, paired with the Koji Matsushita blade, it gives a good balance between chopping and attacking.
      At 2.0mm, I think it's best paired with the Matsushita Defensive, attacking mainly with heavy spin.
