If you've used the GFT45 and want a firmer sheet, I think this could be one option. There's no technique that's hard to pull off when playing close to the table, so I'd recommend it. It feels a bit tougher when you back away from the table, but that will vary depending on your skill and blade.

I'd recommend this for penhold long-pips players who want to move away from a block-heavy style and play more aggressively. With OX rubber, the blade's speed comes through more, and the variation and bite are bigger too, so I think it's easier to score points. On the other hand, the weight is concentrated toward the tip, so that might bother some people. The grip is flat, so the blade face doesn't wobble easily, which I think makes drives and smashes stable. You might find it hard to control with soft, tall long pips. But then again, that unpredictability might just be part of what makes the variation work... Since the ball comes off quickly, be prepared that putting on a tension rubber will make it harder to generate spin.

Because the carbon itself is thin and it's an inner-carbon build, despite the hardness of the feel, it gives an impression of staying controlled rather than flying too much. That said, the average speed isn't low either, so I think it's an all-around blade that works well no matter what you put on it. The difference from the ALC.S-CS is that with the CS, the arylate influence is stronger, so if you catch the ball thick it really flies. Other than that, I don't feel there's much difference. One distinctive feature is the grip thickness on the Chinese-penhold version - it's thinner than other makers', so for people it suits, it'll suit them perfectly.

It's a 5-ply but the board thickness is 6.8mm, so it really feels like a 5-ply leaning toward 7-ply, or a 7-ply leaning toward 5-ply. Think of it as somewhere between the Korbel and the SK7. It's got an antibacterial ply too, and while the wood keeps that classic wood feel on the plies, it adds bounce on top of that, and it doesn't end up feeling half-baked - it's easy to handle (my sense is the bounce slightly wins out over the wood feel). The impression didn't change between large-ball and hard-ball play. I get the feeling this would really appeal to women of any level or age, and to men playing short pips on the backhand.

I moved over from the Ma Lin Carbon. The feel leans soft and it feels nice, so I think it was worth the price. That said, my honest impression is that the speed isn't that high despite how quickly the ball leaves the blade. If you're putting long pips on it, choosing them is pretty tricky since you have to sacrifice both variation and sharpness. On the other hand, the usual awkwardness of long pips is reduced quite a bit, so shots like a simple block, just getting the ball in and touching it, felt easy. I'd guess a hard rubber would work better here than a soft one — a win-win, maybe?
