  TIMBER 7 OFF/S

  

  I'm making a comeback after 30 years away. Please take this as the impressions of an out-of-shape old guy.

  I switched from my old blade, an Adolescen, which weighed 198g total. The Timber 7 OFF/S is 87g for the blade alone, 183g total — a full 15g lighter.

  What surprised me most after switching blades was the feel when the ball hits the sweet spot. It flies off with a satisfying thwack and lands right on the table.
  Topspin drives on both forehand and backhand feel especially great! I was amazed — so this is the power of a 7-ply blade! The Adolescen never gave me that kind of satisfaction.
  Not just my go-to loop drive, but power drives and speed drives also feel great and land solidly on the table.

  Serves and the short game, both long and short, go exactly as I intend. The control is impressive for a 7-ply blade with 6.9mm thickness.

  I don't see any major weaknesses whether playing close to the table or at mid-distance. If there are any weaknesses, they're my own lack of skill and stamina.
  I can't comment on play away from the table — I'm an old guy without the stamina for it.

  30年ぶりの復帰です。体力の落ちたおじさんの感想だと思ってください。

  以前の計198gのアドレッセンから買い換えました。ティンバー7 OFF/Sはラケット単体で87g、計183gで15gも軽量化しました。

  ラケットを替えて一番驚いたのは、スイートエリアに球が当たったときの打球感です。スコーンと気持ちよく飛んで行って台に収まります。
  フォアもバックもドライブが特に気持ちいい！これが7枚合板の威力か！と感動しました。この気持ちよさはアドレッセンにはありませんでした。
  得意のループドライブだけでなく、パワードライブ・スピードドライブも気持ちよく打てて、しっかりと台に収まります。

  サービスや台上処理は長短ともに思いどおりです。板厚が6.9mmもある7枚合板とは思えないほどのコントロールの良さです。

  前陣でも中陣でも大きな欠点はなさそうです。欠点があるとすれば、私の未熟な技術と体力のなさだと思います。
  後陣の評価はできません。体力のないおじさんですから。

  Vega Europe

  

  I'm making a comeback after 30 years away.

  I'm new to tension rubbers, and my sense of the game is outdated, so please bear with me.

  My first impression of Vega Europe was "gentle!" Both the topsheet and sponge are soft, and when you hit the ball you can feel it squish right into the rubber. It's like the rubber gently grabs the ball as it sinks in, then softly sends it off.

  At the very least, this isn't a rubber where the ball smacks against it and rockets off.

  The stability and control are good, so I think it's a perfect fit for beginners who care about spin and are struggling to pick a backhand rubber.

  That said, when it comes to high-performance rubbers around the ¥4,000 price point, XIOM alone has several within the VEGA line, and if you count other brands too, it's a crowded field.
  Looking at reviews in this price range, each one seems to have its own slightly different character.
  Among them, Vega Europe seems like a strong candidate for your next rubber if you like soft rubbers or if you're struggling with stability and control.

  30年ぶりの復帰です。

  テンションラバー初心者で、感覚が古いです。ご容赦ください。

  ヴェガヨーロッパの第一印象は「優しい！」でした。シートもスポンジも柔らかく、打球時には球がぐにゅっとラバーに食い込む感触がします。食い込んだラバーが優しく球を掴んで、そっと飛ばす、そんな感じです。

  少くとも、ガツッと球に当たってビューンと飛ばすラバーではありません。

  安定性・コントロール性が良いので、回転を重視されていてバックのラバーに悩んでいる初級者さんにはぴったりではないでしょうか。

  ただ、定価4,000円前後の高性能なラバーは、XIOMではVEGAシリーズの中にも色々ありますし、他社も含めれば群雄割拠です。
  この価格帯のレビューを拝見していると、それぞれ少しずつ特徴があるようです。
  その中でもヴェガヨーロッパは、柔らかいラバーが好きという方や安定性・コントロールに悩んでいる方にとって、次のラバーの候補になると思います。

  INFINITY VPS V

  

  I'm using this alongside andro's TIMBER7 OFF/S (a 7-ply, 6.9mm blade).

  The piece I got has a 6.0mm thickness and weighs 92g. Both the thickness and weight are above standard. Total weight including rubber etc. is 187g.

  When hitting, it doesn't shock my hand as much as the TIMBER7 OFF/S does. I didn't feel much hardness either.

  Both light and hard shots fly in a fairly flat, straight line.
  That said, loop drives still trace a proper arc.
  Hitting harder produces a higher-pitched sound off the ball.

  What really stands out is the control and maneuverability. Not just long/short and left/right placement, but also the height of the arc and the amount of spin come out exactly as intended.
  I'm not great at flicking back no-spin balls, but thanks to how maneuverable this is, my net mistakes dropped dramatically.
  That said, if you push the same way you would with the TIMBER7 OFF/S, the ball floats up. You need to close the racket angle quite a bit more than you'd expect.

  (Update) Once I switched to a harder rubber, my pushes stopped floating.

  I didn't notice any major weaknesses in the short game or at mid-distance either. Overall, this is a blade that's easy for me to use.

  androのTIMBER7 OFF/S(板厚6.9mmの7枚合板)との併用です。

  手にした個体は板厚6.0mm、重量92g。板厚・重量とも標準を越えています。ラバーなどを含めた総重量は187gです。

  打った感じはTIMBER7 OFF/Sほど手に響きません。硬さもあまり感じませんでした。

  軽打でも強打でも直線的に飛んでいきます。
  ただ、ループドライブではしっかりと弧線を描きます。
  強めに打つと打球音が高くなります。

  抜群なのはコントロール性と操作性です。長短・左右だけでなく、弧線の高さや回転量も意図したとおりに打てます。
  私はナックルをフリックで返すのが苦手ですが、操作性の良さのおかげか、ネットミスが激減しました。
  ただ、TIMBER7 OFF/Sと同じ感覚でツッツキをすると球が浮いてしまいます。イメージよりも面をかなり立てる必要があります。

  (追記) ラバーの硬度を上げるとツッツキが浮かなくなりました。

  台上も中陣も大きな欠点はないよう感じました。総じて、私にとっては使いやすいラケットです。

  Fastarc G-1

  

  I have this on the forehand of my andro TIMBER7 off/s. Before this I had Rigan Spin (max thickness) on it. I felt Rigan Spin was too soft on forehand, so I switched to this harder rubber.

  This is a comparison with Rigan Spin and Hexer Powergrip (which I have on my Infinity blade).

  Compared to Rigan Spin, the feel is harder, but it gives you more of a "solid hit" sensation. There's no comparison in speed or spin - both are much better. It requires more swing speed, but table tennis has become easier for me.

  Compared to Hexer Powergrip, which has similar hardness, this felt a bit weaker on speed. Fastarc G-1 wins out on spin. Hexer Powergrip feels more satisfying when hitting a fast drive, while Fastarc G-1 is harder for the opponent to handle. Even though I feel like I'm swinging the same way each time, Fastarc G-1 seems to produce inconsistent amounts of spin.

  I didn't feel anything off about the short game either. On drives from mid-distance, it felt like spin was hard to generate unless I really sank the ball into the topsheet.

  Personally I prefer Hexer Powergrip, but in matches Fastarc G-1 might make it easier to win points.

  androのTIMBER7 off/sのフォア面に貼っています。以前はライガンスピン（特厚）を貼っていました。フォア面には柔らかいと感じていたので、硬めのこのラバーに替えました。

  ライガンスピン、ヘキサーパワーグリップ（インフィニティに貼付）との比較になります。

  ライガンスピンと比べると、打感は硬くなりましたが「しっかりと打っている感」があります。スピード、回転量ともに比較になりません。スイングスピードが必要になりましたが、卓球が楽になりました。

  同じ硬度のヘキサーパワーグリップと比較すると、スピードでは劣るように感じました。回転量はファスタークG-1に軍配が上がります。スピードドライブを打つと、気持ちいいのはヘキサーパワーグリップ、相手が球を受けにくいのがファスタークG-1です。同じように打っているつもりなのに、ファスタークG-1は回転量にムラが出るようです。

  台上処理も特に違和感を感じませんでした。中陣からのドライブはしっかりとシートに食い込ませないと回転がかかりにくいように感じました。

  個人的な好みはヘキサーパワーグリップですが、試合ではファスタークG-1の方が点を取りやすいかもしれません。

  RIGAN

  

  I've got this on the backhand side of my andro TIMBER7 off/s. I used to have Inova (max thickness) on there. The topsheet started tearing a lot, so I switched.

  I'd previously had Rigan Spin on the forehand side of the TIMBER7 off/s, so I already had a decent amount of trust in Rigan going in.

  Actually hitting with it, I found Rigan easier to use on the backhand than the forehand.
  The way the sheet really grabs the ball, the sense of security that comes from the good control of the soft sponge, the feel of pushing the ball firmly right where you're aiming — these strengths really come through on the backhand, where the swing tends to be more compact and harder to adjust mid-swing.

  That said, don't expect much speed. It's a bit lacking even on the forehand, so needless to say it's the same on the backhand.
  I don't think it's for people who want to swing hard on the backhand and finish points with smashes or fast drives. It's probably better suited to people like me who use the backhand mainly to keep the rally going.
  On the backhand side, even on a 7-ply blade it won't fly too much, so I can recommend it as a first rubber to try on a wood blade.

  androのTIMBER7 off/sのバック面に貼っています。以前はイノーバ（特厚）を貼っていました。シートの裂けが多くなってきましたので張り替えました。

  TIMBER7 off/sのフォア面にライガンスピンを貼っていたことがありましたので、購入前からライガンにもある程度の信頼感を持っていました。

  実際に打球してみると、ライガンはフォア面よりもバック面の方が使いやすく感じました。
  シートが球をしっかりと持ってくれる感覚、柔らかいスポンジによるコントロールの良さからくる安心感、グイっと狙ったところに押し込むような感触など、スイングがコンパクトになりがちでスイング途中での修正がしにくいバック面で良さを発揮できています。

  ただし、スピードには期待できません。フォアで打ってもいまいちですので、バックでは言わずもがなです。
  バックもガンガン振ってスマッシュやスピードドライブの一撃で決める！という方には向かないと思います。私のようにバックは繋ぎで使う方に向いているのではないでしょうか。
  バック面だと7枚合板に貼っても飛びすぎることはありませんので、木材ラケットでのとりあえずの1枚におすすめできます。
