I'd say this is one of the more manageable rubbers among the speed-oriented short pips.
This was my first short pips rubber after switching from inverted, and yeah, it definitely felt strange at first. But when I focused on returning backhand blocks just over the net, the pips are quite firm so the ball comes off fast right away, and my opponents seemed to have a hard time returning it. Since it's short pips, it's also less affected by the opponent's spin than inverted rubber, so I'd really recommend it to players who like to play close to the table and finish points quickly.
That said, for topspin drives and pushes, there's a big technical element involved, so I wouldn't say it's easier than inverted rubber in that respect.

I think this is a masterpiece rubber that Japan can be proud of on the world stage.
Back in the 38mm ball era, you could largely ignore spin and just smash away with it...But in the 40mm plastic ball era it felt completely different. (I had a break of nearly 20 years from the sport.)
That said, the first thing to note is that TSP's red sponge is light and soft, so I'd recommend it to middle schoolers wanting to try short pips for the first time, as well as older players who've been enjoying table tennis for years.Even with a light touch you can send the ball off crisply, so it's fun to hit with.
I couldn't generate spin myself, but because the sponge is soft, I think this rubber is the type that makes it relatively easy to get spin on the ball.
I'd say this is a good rubber for players who struggle with heavy racket weight.

I used the thick version.
This is the tension rubber that's practically synonymous with short pips.
The trajectory is flat, so if you're used to inverted rubber, it might feel like the ball drops at first.
Compared to other short pips rubbers, it seems to fly in a straighter line.The sheet feels different from typical tension rubbers — it's less slippery, or rather, it feels similar to the sheet on the original Spectol. It has good grip on the ball and feels stable.
Above all, the ball comes off the rubber quickly, so angle shots are easy to pull off. It naturally produces knuckle balls too, without hurting your control too much.
And what's nice is that it's quite lightweight.
I'd say it might be the lightest among the current tension rubbers.It really embodies what a short pips rubber should be.
On the other hand, it's a bit harder to vary the ball quality (spin + knuckle), but I think you can make up for that with your playing style.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

Above all, the ball release is amazing!
It's easy to receive and block with, and easy to produce knuckle balls too! It has vertical pips so it's fast and bounces well — you can score points with it!Spin isn't quite as strong as horizontal-pip short pips rubbers, but it's still easy to put spin on, so it works great on the forehand of a penhold blade too! It suits players who use a lot of angle shots rather than topspin drives!

This is the first short pips rubber I've used while playing table tennis, and it was very easy to handle, with a really nice bounce off the ball.
If you're conscious about it, you can get a bit of spin too, so during a game, even hitting from the short pips side often makes your opponent mess up the return — personally I'd recommend this rubber to people who want to win with their serve, or to beginners.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little soft

A friend from my club team said he bought the Spectrum Red, so I borrowed it and gave it a try.
At first I thought, yeah, this feels like a typical short pips rubber, but once I started receiving with it my impression completely changed. The ball wobbled so much it even surprised me. I had no idea where it was going. The ball curves. Serves wobble too — it's kind of like a strong, wobbly version of short pips that's close to inverted rubber

You can really feel that punch that's unique to short pips. What surprised me the most was how much spin you can get on serves. It has serious punch, and that punch translates into spin. So I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't sure how to generate spin, wants more spin, or wants more punch on their shots. It's so sharp that the ball wobbles its way right into the court!
