Good Chinese pen of momentum with a soft feel at impact

Chinese pen of inner fiber specification with a soft feel at impact of the wood. ZL carbon that combines the height and suppleness of the impetus yet lightweight will support a high level of play.

    Customer Reviews SummaryAI Summary
The overwhelming majority rate it highly as a versatile all-around racket that excels for penhold use. The unique feel combining wood and carbon with excellent spin control is the main appeal, though some note that it requires practice and skill to master.
    ■ Frequently Mentioned Points
    • Excellent ball retention and spin performance, easy to hit stable drives
    • Soft wood-like feel despite carbon material, superior control characteristics
    • Versatile across all techniques: table play, loop drives, serve receive
    • Exceptional compatibility with offensive rubbers, especially Tenergy
    • Springy response that can suppress short touches yet explosively drive aggressive shots
    ■ Representative Voices
▲ PositiveThe hitting feel is good including backhand drives I'm trying for the first time, with moderate rebound that I appreciate. Considering tabletop handling and backhand operability, there's a strong possibility I'll continue using it.
▽ CriticalDespite being an inner-type, the carbon hardness is felt, making table play and receiving somewhat difficult to handle. Though with continued use, the challenging control aspects should resolve over time.

Cool Max (Experience: 11〜20 years) Takes real commitment to master

      Player reviews

If you swing through properly, it bounces really well, so you can fight back even from mid-distance.
That said, even though it's an inner-carbon blade, you can feel the stiffness of the carbon, so the short game and receiving felt a bit hard to handle.
As for rubber, EL-S, which has reduced bounce, paired well with this bouncy blade.
I think with long-term use you could probably work through the tricky control issues, but I didn't have that much patience. So using this blade well takes a certain amount of commitment.

The review above is relative, since my current main blade is the Innerforce Layer ZLF-CS.

Alexandra (Experience: 6〜10 years) Great flex, powerful drives!

      Player reviews

I've since switched to shakehand, but I used this back when I played Chinese penhold.
It has a premium feel, and maybe because the blade is thin, it flexes a lot, which made the topspin drive incredibly easy to hit.

The backhand side is also easy to swing, and there's really no particular drawback.
Personally though, I still prefer the feel of an all-wood blade.

Topspin rallies, blocking, and every other technique can all be done with a good amount of precision.
      I think it's really good.

I've been using it for quite a while now, and for me there's no Chinese penhold blade out there that beats it! I've stuck with this and Tenergy 80 / 80FX the whole time. First, the topspin drive — you barely miss, and you can hit it with real confidence. Even in topspin rallies it stays really stable. At first I couldn't use it at all and thought about switching, but once you get used to it, it gives you overwhelming power. Also, since it's lightweight, you can go with a heavier rubber. It's a blade I can recommend to every Chinese penhold user.

It puts a lot of spin on the ball and has really good control, but it's expensive.

    • I Guti

I Guti (Experience: 6〜10 years) Overwhelming quality that makes you say "that's Butterfly for you"

      Player reviews

First, I bounced the ball on the blade without any rubber on it, and hitting the sweet spot gave a bounce that's incomparable to any other 5-ply blade. Even so, the feel wasn't like a hard blade — it was more like the wood grips the ball firmly, then the ZL carbon snaps it away with a sharp crack. It's what you'd call good ball-sink. Just from that alone, I thought, ah, this is going to sell well...

Once you actually put rubber on it, the bounce settles into a moderate range — it flies when you want it to fly, and it holds back when you want it to hold back, so every technique is easy to use in an all-round way. That said, I'd say it leans more toward a drive-oriented blade than a smash-oriented one.

As for rubber, it works well both with a sink-in style stroke and a flex-based stroke, so I think pretty much anything would pair well, but given how good the ball-sink is, my impression is that it was designed with pairing Tenergy (especially the 05) in mind.

If I had to name a downside, it would be that people used to lighter blades like the Violin or Offensive might find it a bit heavy. Also, the feel doesn't transmit much vibration to your hand, so if you want that resonant feel, it might feel a little lacking.

It's close to an all-wood blade. No problems with serves or receives, and I think it would be popular with intermediate to advanced players.
