It's a single-ply hinoki blade, but maybe because the wood is on the thin side, it doesn't have much bounce. The grip isn't cork, so it has a solid, hefty feel, but since the weight is centered at the grip, it actually feels surprisingly light when you swing it, giving great control near the handle.
It has the decent speed you'd expect from a single-ply blade, so backhand blocks work well.
To boost forehand power, adding a side balancer near the tip would probably help.Overall Speed Spin Control Touch Hardness Little soft

Using it Chinese-penhold style.
The ball control, feel, and ease of putting on spin aren't anything special, but hard shots come out stable, so I'd want to use this for an aggressive style of play.Overall Speed Spin Control Touch Hardness Little hard

It's a bit harder than Kiryu, bounces well, and gives you more distance. I think that difference in distance is the biggest difference between the two. Kiryu is lighter and speedier than Shoryu, and given its bounce it feels more suited to close-to-the-table play. The spin is about the same on both, but since Kiryu has less bounce, it's easier to keep the ball on the table without overshooting. Before actually trying them, I expected Shoryu to suit the forehand and Kiryu the backhand, but it's actually more stable with Kiryu on the forehand and Shoryu on the backhand.

Looking at just the blade, it might be true that it doesn't have much attacking power, but when it comes to hard hits like smashes, the blade's own power doesn't really matter much anyway, so personally it's not an issue for me. I'd recommend it for anyone who wants to pair it with a spin-friendly rubber and rip through the ball.

They say seeing once is worth hearing a hundred times, but I'd say hitting once is worth seeing a hundred times.
I had Hurricane on the other side, so by comparison this actually felt soft to me. As for the feel on contact, it's fascinating how you can feel the sponge launching the ball like a spring right through your hand — it's a sensation I haven't gotten from any other rubber.Overall Speed Spin Control Hardness Little soft
