I use it on both forehand and backhand.
You get the kind of bounce and spin you'd expect from the old speed-glue days. A drive where you really sink the ball in produces a more powerful, higher-spin ball than one where you just brush it.
Since topspin comes on almost automatically, it definitely gives you a sense of security in rallies and puts pressure on your opponent. That said, the shots tend to look similar to each other, and the higher the level of play, the more your counters and shot power get used against you, so I felt you need skill beyond that to really benefit from it.
I get the impression it suits the backhand more than the forehand — it's a rubber that makes up for a lack of backhand rallying power with automatic topspin, boosting both power and consistency. The sticking point is, as always, the price.

I use Hurricane NEO3 Blue Sponge on my forehand, and I picked this up to create a difference in ball quality between forehand and backhand, and to make up for my slower backhand swing speed. The good points are:
- The stability and power of my backhand drives!
- In rallies, the automatic topspin it seems to add makes my connecting backhand shots way more powerful!
- Even with such high spin performance and stability, the ball quality still feels lively and fast!
I still haven't fully brought out its potential with my current skill level, but it's becoming a trump card against opponents who won't let me get a forehand drive in easily. As long as you can get past the cost, I felt that if you get used to consciously sinking the ball into the spring sponge to generate spin, your skill will definitely improve. In table tennis where the backhand's importance has clearly grown, I think this is about as great a rubber as you can get.
Beyond just making up for a slow backhand swing, the high spin and speed from its high energy-conversion efficiency, plus how the ball carries through, are essential for modern table tennis. I used this on both my forehand (F) and backhand (B), but I felt it suited my backhand better. Just like people say, the trajectory is more linear than the 05, which gives it a more aggressive feel. From close to the table or mid-distance, you can go for a big finishing shot with a backhand hit or topspin drive at a high contact point. Tenergy's signature spin performance is still there, so it helps you more than expected with stability in matches. When you drop your contact point low, it feels like it has a bit less grip on the ball than the 05, so you need to sink the ball into the sponge a bit, but the spin performance is high, so once you get used to it, you can handle it without much trouble. It's a good rubber. If I were to use Tenergy on both sides, I think max thickness 05 on the forehand and max thickness 80 on the backhand would suit me.
For topspin drives, my image is: go with the 05 if you want to compete on loop and speed with a spin difference, and go with the 80 if you want to compete on speed and aggression. Mizutani uses it too, so why not give it a try at least once? On special materials like ZLC or ALC, the 80 flies quite a lot, but it feels great to hit and is stress-free — highly recommended!Overall Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

Topspin drive
- Maybe because the feel is hard, brushing up on the ball felt great. Spin was high too, and I could hit forehand drives over the table without hesitation and land almost all of them. Up through the third ball after the serve, it's basically perfect except for ball speed. If you want speed — especially if you're used to special-material blades and their speed — you'll probably find this quite lacking.
Blocking
- You can attack with a drive over the table on most balls, and since it's a dense wooden blade, I felt the benefit of not being affected much by the opponent's power. If you get the racket on the ball, you can return it almost every time. It's also easy to take the ball early, or use chop blocks and sidespin blocks.
Summary

This is a review of the provincial-team-issue Hurricane Neo 3, blue sponge version.
The blue sponge has three good points:
1) Crazy tackiness that doesn't lose out to rain or humidity
2) Even though it's a Hurricane, it's soft and easy to handle, and the ball still flies! Compared to the regular Hurricane Neo 3, it has more speed both off the racket and after it lands in your opponent's court!
3) It's light! Despite being super tacky, it's only 46g mounted on the blade! That lets you swing faster.Both spin and speed are on par with or better than Tenergy, and it also widens the range of ball quality you can produce on drive attacks.
The cost and how hard it is to get your hands on are the drawbacks, but since Japan's national team players are gradually adopting it, I think it's worth trying at least once.
It also pairs amazingly well with the Fortius FT ver.D — the rubber's spin combined with the blade's speed makes for insane destructive power!Overall Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard
