Yasaka Mark V is one of the oldest and well known rubbers in the history of this sport. Originally released in 1969, this rubber helped revolutionize table tennis by proving that a heavy topspin attacking style was not only viable, but would also become the dominant style of table tennis from the 1970s all the way to today. These days, Mark V is still characterized by its grippy surface, medium sponge, and superb control. Today, it is a solid choice for beginners with an allround blade and all the way up to high level play when boosted and on a more offensive blade.

I'm a chopper.
Since it doesn't bounce much, I feel like it gives me enough time to chop and get back into position, which is nice.

Maybe it's because my blade has an inner-carbon layer, but the ball really sinks into the sponge and I can get a lot of spin. The control is top-class.

I only bought and tried the thick version once, but I could really tell why Mark V is such a long-time bestseller. The reason is that it's just so easy to drive with! The day after I bought it, I tried it out at club practice and my drives were landing one after another (I put it on my backhand side). At the time I thought this rubber was amazing. (I'd only been playing table tennis for about a year at that point.)
So I think it's ideal for beginners and novices to learn the basics with. I also think even intermediate players can get stronger using this rubber. I really want everyone to try it at least once!

A really easy-to-use rubber — even though it's not fast, techniques like the backhand push and chiquita are very easy to pull off!

I think this rubber is extremely well-balanced.
It doesn't produce much speed, but it grips the ball really well and it's easy to put a lot of spin on. The control is also outstanding, so if you're looking for a highly consistent rubber, why not give it a try?

Novice kid (Experience: ４〜５ years) Easy to use after all

I used it again after a long while, and it's still easy to use. Of course it's inferior to tension rubbers in speed and spin, but as a high-bounce rubber I think it's about as easy to use as it gets. With light touches it doesn't bounce much (doesn't fly off), so you can drop it just over the net — pretty effective against mid- or far-from-the-table players. And with hard hits, it produces decent speed. If you've got the physicality for it, or you're using a carbon blade, I think you can generate quite a bit of speed. The sheet also has good grip on the ball, so looping against backspin isn't a problem either. I feel like in the modern game, an all-around player could win using this rubber.
