Yasaka Mark V is one of the oldest and well known rubbers in the history of this sport. Originally released in 1969, this rubber helped revolutionize table tennis by proving that a heavy topspin attacking style was not only viable, but would also become the dominant style of table tennis from the 1970s all the way to today. These days, Mark V is still characterized by its grippy surface, medium sponge, and superb control. Today, it is a solid choice for beginners with an allround blade and all the way up to high level play when boosted and on a more offensive blade.

Table Tennis Department (Experience: 2〜3 years) Mark V after all

This was the rubber I used when I first started, but when I put it back on after building up my basic technique, I was surprised by how much spin it has. The speed is, of course, inferior to tension rubbers, but it's good enough to hold your own in a match, and the control is excellent too. I hope Mark V keeps being sold for a long time to come.

You can get spin on it if you try,
so I thought it was good. The sponge is soft, so it's easy to put spin on your serves. All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little soft

Control is its strong point. I don't think it suits beginners who like to push hard and go all-out. A friend of mine had the topsheet get worn out from the opponent's spin in just three months. If you're going to buy something, I think it's better to stretch your budget a bit and go for something like the Vega series, Rigan, or Factive.

I used this for two years back in junior high. The good thing about this rubber is that it doesn't have much bounce. Why is that good? Because it forces you to generate your own power when hitting, which helps you improve. I've never seen intermediate or higher-level players use this rubber in matches, but from what I've seen, most beginners use it.

No quirks at all, really easy to use. The control is amazing, making it easy to attack specific spots on the table. It's cheap too, and the rubber lasts a long time.

This is one of the classic beginner rubbers.
Along with Hammond and Grandy,
it's one of the big three.
Mark V has the best control of the three.
Grandy has the most spin.
And Hammond would be the most well-rounded overall, I'd say.
If you're a beginner looking for control, I think this Mark V is the one for you.
And another feature is that it lasts a really long time. All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

The control is far above anything else out there. There are various thicknesses available, but I'd recommend thick. (This rubber is the classic high-bounce option, so I think you can find it at any shop.) I'd recommend it to penholders wanting to learn the backhand reverse technique, and to anyone wanting to build a feel for spin.
