    Yasaka Mark V is one of the oldest and well known rubbers in the history of this sport. Originally released in 1969, this rubber helped revolutionize table tennis by proving that a heavy topspin attacking style was not only viable, but would also become the dominant style of table tennis from the 1970s all the way to today. These days, Mark V is still characterized by its grippy surface, medium sponge, and superb control. Today, it is a solid choice for beginners with an allround blade and all the way up to high level play when boosted and on a more offensive blade.

      This rubber comes in various thicknesses — extra thin, thin, medium, thick, and max thickness. For people who want better control over their shots, I'd recommend the extra thin version. However, with the extra thin rubber the racket ends up too light and it becomes harder to hit powerful shots, but if you can make up for that with your arm, it's wonderful.

      For people just starting table tennis, those looking to step up with a different rubber, or those whose current tension rubber doesn't suit them, I'd recommend this rubber.
      This rubber comes in a wide range of sponge thicknesses — thin, medium, medium-thick, thick, and max thickness, five in total. For beginners I'd recommend thin or medium.
      For those looking to step up, medium to thick is good. I wouldn't recommend max thickness. You can hit powerful shots, but on pushes and similar shots the opponent's spin affects you too much, causing you to go long or hit the net. I think it's good to judge the range of sponge thicknesses carefully before buying.

      I bought this in medium thickness at a nearby sports store.
      I've only been playing table tennis for about six months, but
      I think this rubber is practically perfect for beginners.
      The balance between speed and spin is great,
      and since the hardness is a little on the soft side, it's easy to control too.
      If you're a beginner, I really want you to try it at least once.

      If you're starting table tennis, I'd recommend using this rubber first.

      There are various versions available, but
      start with this standard type, in medium or thin sponge.

      There's a reason it's kept selling for so many years.
      It has every spec you need to learn the basic techniques.

      After using this rubber, move on to the next step — other tension rubbers, tacky rubbers, and so on.
