Yasaka Mark V is one of the oldest and well known rubbers in the history of this sport. Originally released in 1969, this rubber helped revolutionize table tennis by proving that a heavy topspin attacking style was not only viable, but would also become the dominant style of table tennis from the 1970s all the way to today. These days, Mark V is still characterized by its grippy surface, medium sponge, and superb control. Today, it is a solid choice for beginners with an allround blade and all the way up to high level play when boosted and on a more offensive blade.

Recommended for beginners just starting out. I think it's especially great for learning your first techniques — topspin drives, pushes, the short game, and so on!

Since it doesn't bounce much, the control is good, but now that the same company sells Vermo and other makers sell beginner-friendly rubbers like Ventus Basic, there's really no more need for a speed-glue-era high-tension rubber whose only selling point is control. It's a harsh thing to say, but I also think every manufacturer has way too many redundant lineups, which just wastes resources, so I think this should be discontinued sooner rather than later.

This is basically synonymous with "the first rubber people use." There's nothing intimidating about it, and you can build a feel for basic strokes with it. If you let the ball sink in properly, you can still produce a decent topspin drive — it's exactly what you'd expect from a high-tension rubber. I'm mainly a drive player myself, but this is also a rubber loved by choppers. It's easy to read the power of your opponent's shot, and you can send back a ball with no quirks. For a high-tension rubber, the sheet might be just a bit sensitive.

As expected, a lot of junior-high students today still use this. I'd say this rubber is middle-of-the-road in every category. I used it before too. It's a rubber for polishing your early technique. For beginners, or for anyone who wants to sharpen their skills — here's a rubber that's a perfect fit for you.

Just like the title says, this is a rubber that's easy to spin and easy to control. It's a good rubber, so if you're starting table tennis, it's kind of the "just put this on for now" choice. Naturally, compared to tension rubbers, the speed and power feel a bit lacking.

This is a rubber I'm glad I used when I was just starting out. The short game is easy to play, and it's also easy to brush the ball for a topspin drive. I'd probably recommend the thick sponge.
