Yasaka Mark V is one of the oldest and well known rubbers in the history of this sport. Originally released in 1969, this rubber helped revolutionize table tennis by proving that a heavy topspin attacking style was not only viable, but would also become the dominant style of table tennis from the 1970s all the way to today. These days, Mark V is still characterized by its grippy surface, medium sponge, and superb control. Today, it is a solid choice for beginners with an allround blade and all the way up to high level play when boosted and on a more offensive blade.

This is a rubber that grows on you in a lot of ways — the hardness, the feel, the grip on the ball. I think it works fine for beginners on both forehand and backhand. I put it on both sides as my second rubber. It's a good, well-balanced rubber.

This is the best beginner rubber out there. Even now when I use it, the control really shines.
It gives you a decent amount of spin and speed too.

With this rubber, first off, you don't get as much distance as with more recent rubbers, but that lets you swing all out, and at my level I actually get more spin than with a spin-oriented tension rubber. Also, despite the reasonable price, it produces a great amount of spin — it's a wonderful rubber. As for the weak bounce, just make up for it with a good arc when you swing all out. If you can get the ball to arc properly, you won't have any trouble playing close to mid-distance from the table. It's a really good rubber, so please give it a try.

I used this as my very first rubber for about six months.
The control was excellent, so it was really easy to use back when I was a beginner.
It has a decent amount of speed and spin too.

I think it's meant for beginners
but a lot of senior players seem to like using it too, and personally, when I caught the ball right on the sweet spot I could produce a really good shot
