Tony Semi-tacky — a gateway to tacky rubbers

Up until now I'd only used high-bounce inverted rubbers like the G-1 or Vega, but I tried Shoryu as an experiment. When you swing all the way through, you get a really satisfying shot that lands in. But if your swing speed is slow, the ball won't bounce and will hit the net. When you block, the ball comes out straight and lands in the opponent's court.
This might be true of tacky rubbers in general, but it suits players who can swing all the way through.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

This is a rubber that combines the grip of a tacky rubber with the speed of a tension rubber.
Of course, it's slower than a bouncy tension rubber like Tenergy, and its spin doesn't match rubbers in the Hurricane family.Loop drives are no problem, but if you hit from below the ball tends to lose weight. Whether it's the third ball or the fifth ball, unless you strike down into the ball firmly from above, you won't get this rubber's true value out of it.
Another point that shouldn't be overlooked is how easy blocks are as a penhold looper. Despite being tacky, it has a bounce close to that of a tension rubber (without bouncing too much), so you can easily move your opponent around. It also holds the ball down well when you need control.
As a rubber for the forehand side, it being light (low 40g range) is also a big plus.If you're good at backhand drives, I think putting it on the backhand is also a good idea. Since the contact point comes earlier than on the forehand, it should suit this rubber's characteristics well.

The feel is basically like a tension rubber. It's not as fast as a tension rubber, and it doesn't spin as much as a genuine tacky rubber like Hurricane. The main point of this rubber is that it has a tension-rubber feel while still producing tricky balls like a tacky rubber. I'd recommend it more to tension-rubber users who want their drives to have some character, rather than tacky-rubber users looking for speed.
I think a harder blade suits it better. When I put it on a Korbel or a Hurricane King, I felt a loss of power.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

I think this rubber is specialized for close-to-the-table drive players.
Against heavy topspin, drives come out heavy and land deep on the table.
Every short-game technique is also easy to do, and you can return the ball with good quality.
However, because of its hardness, smashes lack power and are hard to control compared to other rubbers, so I can't really recommend it to long-pips players who rely heavily on smashing.Compared to genuine Chinese rubbers, this one makes it easy to build a fast-paced game from the start, so I'd highly recommend it to players who like to attack early with drives close to the table.

I'm using it in thick, on my forehand, on an Acoustic blade. Even though it's called tacky, it doesn't have that sticky feel like Hurricane - the grip is more like TSP's Triple Spin. The bounce is about as good as the Rakza 7 I used before. What I like is that the edges don't crumble and burn away like they do with tension rubbers, so it lasts a long time. I'd recommend it to close-to-the-table players. It's also cheap and long-lasting. When it first came out there were cases of the sponge and top sheet separating, but that seems to have been fixed now. Drives are obviously good, but meet-style smashes are also easy to hit, and the ball naturally changes course, so opponents say it's hard to return. That said, the sound isn't great, and some people might see that as a drawback.

To put it plainly, this rubber performs well across almost every part of the court - the short game, close to the table, mid-distance, and away from the table.
First, in the short game: being a tacky rubber, it's naturally easy to get spin on stops and pushes, and flicking with a reverse motion is also very easy.
Next, close-to-the-table through away-from-the-table play. Compared to something like Hurricane or Skyline, the raw amount of spin and the waviness on drives are admittedly a bit weaker, but the sharpness of the shot is second to none. Also, since it has a bit of tension built in, it lets you confidently put away those slightly floating chance balls without hitting the net - something that was hard with Hurricane or Skyline. This is the main reason I use Shoryu.
Right now I have it on a ZLC blade. It's generally said that bouncy blades don't pair well with tacky rubber, but this rubber is an exception.
A lot of people probably think tacky rubber is hard to handle, but once you get used to it, you can keep driving even when your body isn't moving well in a tournament, produce unique balls, and even compete on equal footing with advanced players. Kokutama (Experience: ２〜３ years) Topspin drive

It flies the most out of any tacky rubber I've used. But you still get drives that land with plenty of spin. I'd recommend it to people just starting out with tacky rubber. However, with Shoryu the tackiness varies a lot from day to day, and that's its weak point. Still, it's relatively cheap, so it's easy to buy.
