Developed for plastic balls with a focus on spin and control, and it's light! Plus it's cheap. I've got it on the backhand, and I've been using backhand touches a lot more. How should I put it — even when the angle isn't quite right, the backhand technique is easy. There isn't that much speed, but it grips the ball firmly and releases it, so you can hit the course you're aiming for. The spin is about the same as Rozena, and some people can get even more out of it. Maybe it's the sheet. I tried medium, thick, and max thickness, and each one was easy to use in its own way — medium gave total stability, max thickness had bounce and spin that rival other tension rubbers, and thick was the most stable for blocks and chiquita.

For backhand, reverse-side play, basically anyone who swings on the backhand, this is a really good rubber. It gives a moderate arc and lands on the table reliably. Chiquita, backhand drives, blocks, backhand-to-backhand rallies — anyone who uses the backhand a lot for various things should try it. If there were a category for "dedicated backhand rubber," this would be number one without question.

I could never settle on a reverse-side rubber, so I read the reviews on this site and various other reviews, asked at a table tennis specialty shop, and gave this one a try. My conclusion: no complaints! Just like the reviews said, the stability and grip make it ideal for the backhand. I've used Rozena, Tenergy 64FX, Rakza 7 Soft, and the Fastarc series before. Compared to those, Rigan loses out on speed, but for grip and lift it's well above the others, and the ball just settles down with really high stability. On top of that, chiquita and light backhand touches are outstanding and easy to pull off. It's really good for the backhand.

I'll say it straight out — this is without a doubt the best rubber for the reverse side of a penhold blade!
Penhold reverse-side play needs more angle adjustment than shakehand, so grip that lifts the ball even on a weak touch or a weak impact is one key to reverse-side hitting. Also, since it needs more wrist movement than shakehand, head control is another key — but because it lifts the ball well even with a thin contact, you get just enough spin, and swing adjustment becomes easy. Up to this point you might think "that's true of plenty of rubbers!" — but there are two differences. First, the price: no other maker can match this performance at this price. If we're talking Butterfly, the performance isn't far off Rozena. The other thing is that there's almost no variation between individual sheets by weight. Rubbers can actually vary quite a bit in weight even at the same thickness, but this Rigan barely varies at all. I weighed a good number of them at the shop and tried out every batch of Rigan that came in over two months — that's another big advantage. By contrast, other rubbers, other makers' rubbers, vary a lot between individual pieces... the worst case I saw was a 16g difference at the same thickness. With Rigan, the difference averaged only 4g. It's a reverse-side rubber that penhold users who care about weight will really appreciate. All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little soft

At this point Rigan has completely taken over from Rakza 7 Soft as the go-to backhand rubber. This must be a nice problem for Yasaka to have. Rigan beats Rakza 7 Soft on both lift and grip. The spin is above average too. And when it comes to stability, Rigan wins hands down. With Rigan's arrival, Rakza 7 Soft's rock-solid position as the backhand rubber looks like it's about to disappear. That's how stable Rigan is!

It's often used on the shakehand backhand or the reverse side of a penhold blade, and it's really the ideal rubber for an intermediate player's backhand. Of course, for a beginner it works great on either side. For someone with more experience, it might feel lacking on the forehand, but on the backhand even advanced players shouldn't have any complaints. The spin depends on the player, but it lifts the ball almost automatically, so it's easy to use. Considering the price, I think it's clearly better than Rozena, which is in the same class.

For this price, this level of performance is just amazing! The balance of speed and spin is really good, and the control is excellent too. The raw numbers aren't super high, but performance is solid across the board, so I think it's a rubber anyone can use easily. The grip of the sheet and the sponge's just-right hardness work well on both forehand and backhand. I'd recommend it on both sides for beginners, and on the backhand for intermediate players. Advanced players will probably find the performance lacking, but the value for money is very high.
