I put a hard, heavy rubber on my forehand, so I went with something light with good spin for the backhand.
The grip is really good and the ball feels like it flies upward, so chiquita and backhand drives are easy to hit, and the sponge is soft so blocking was easy too. Also, the springy sponge and top sheet let me hit good quality drives even when I backed off the table a bit.
That said, pushes and stops were a little tricky, maybe because the rubber is soft, so that's something to make up for with practice.
I'd recommend this rubber for both sides for beginners, and for the backhand for intermediate players.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little soft

Because of the price and everything, it's being treated as a beginner rubber or a step-up rubber, but personally I think it's more stable than Vega Asia DF, and the speed on hard shots might actually be about the same or even a bit better.
On the backhand, unless you're really focused on power, I think even an upper-intermediate player could use this without any issues. Because the arc is high, a plain block where you just let the ball hit the rubber tends to float, but that same high arc also means the ball goes in reliably even from mid-distance or a low position, which is a real help for someone like me who struggles with footwork.
It's also light, so I think it's ideal for the reverse side of a penhold blade. DHS rubber is on the heavier side for reverse-penhold players putting inverted rubber on both sides, so Rigan — light, stable, and with decent speed on hard shots — was a perfect fit.
If you're not chasing power, give it a try on the reverse side of your penhold blade!All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little soft

Switching to Rigan made my reverse-side hitting better!

An honest rubber. And because of that, the ball behaves honestly too. It has no quirks, so it's a very easy rubber to use. It's good for learning the fundamentals, but you can also reach for it when you want to get your form back or fix something.

It's got more speed than the reviews suggest. I guess it really depends on how the user plays.
The reason people rate the control highly is probably that the ball lifts upward, so you overwhelmingly cut down on easy misses. That said, the feel and sensation against the ball are very honest, so it might be one of those rubbers where, as people say, "if you hit it, it goes in."
The spin can be, and is, applied at above-average levels, so it works fine for matches too. For what it's worth, in a rally between me with Rigan and a middle schooler who competes at the prefectural tournament level using Tenergy 05, I won decisively — a clean sweep over two sets. In the end it comes down to the player.
Personally, I feel that Rigan is such an honest rubber that there's basically no one it won't suit. These days hard rubbers are getting more popular, so a soft rubber like this tends to get positioned as something for beginner-to-intermediate players, but Rigan can absolutely hold its own at intermediate level and above. If anything, I think this is about the right feel. The idea that "harder is better" or "harder rubbers spin more" has spread way too far and taken root too deeply.

This is a cheap rubber with performance way above its price!
Using it on the backhand is probably the right call. You'll understand better by using it than by reading about it here!

Honestly, this isn't as much of a beginner rubber as everyone says! Intermediate and even advanced players can bring out its full potential without any issue.
First, the spin — compared to something like Rozena, the grip is better so you get more than average spin, and it also has strong rebound so the speed is there too. If anything, since it lifts the ball up, depending on your blade control and wrist use, you can produce some really good backhand shots.
No complaints about Rigan — it's cheap and powerful, way better than getting swept up by brand value or name value and buying an expensive rubber.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little soft
