The Timo Boll ALC is the blade of choice for the European Triple Champion, Timo Boll. Timo working with Butterfly’s technicians, helped design his new blade which offers a touch more speed than his previous model but still allows for the production of the heavy topspin strokes Timo is known for.
Using his new blade along with Butterfly’s new Tenergy rubbers, Timo successfully defended all three of his Titles at the 2008 European Championships. Timo plays fair and wins and so can you. The Timo Boll ALC offers the maximum blend of speed, heavy spin, and Control.

Definitely lives up to being outer-carbon!
Even though it's ALC, the ball leaves the blade fast.
You get good speed, and the sound of the hit is nice too ~♪
It leans toward being a bouncy blade, so if you switch straight from wood you'll get a lot of overshoots.
Once you get used to it, you can hit some really nice, fast topspin drives.
Over the table it sits a little high, so that takes some getting used to too.
How sharp your serves are really comes down to your own skill.
And yeah, the grip design is really cool.
The Viscaria, Matsuken, Zhang Jike, and Lin Gaoyuan ALC all have the same blade construction, so it's a tough call whether to choose based on grip shape and weight balance or just go by looks...

Right now I'm using Dignics 09C, and with this blade the spin really increases. From mid-distance it produces incredible power.

I'll write a review covering my experience from when I first used it up to now.
First off, since I'd been using a 5-ply wood blade myself, I was shocked at first by how fast the ball left the blade lol
But as I kept using it I got used to it and grew to like the feel too. The control is a bit tricky, but once you get used to it I think it becomes a really powerful weapon!
I'm actually using the combo below right now. Personally I love the grip design - it looks so cool!
It's been over 10 years since release, but it's still a popular blade. If you play table tennis, it's one you'll want to try at least once.
That said, there are two things to watch out for.
1. The grip area is hollow, so if you put on a heavy rubber it tends to become top-heavy.
If you've got power behind your shots it's not really an issue though.
2. Since it's an outer-carbon blade, I wouldn't recommend jumping straight to it from a plain wood blade.
It's hard to handle unless you already have a decent level of basic technique.
With that in mind, it might be worth trying an inner-carbon blade first (e.g. Innerforce Layer ALC) to get used to the material,
and then switching to this one once you want a bit more bounce.

I've been playing table tennis for about 2-3 years.
I'd started being able to get impact on my shots and gained some confidence, so I tried an outer-carbon blade, but
it turned out to be a bit too early for me lolPart of it was probably pairing it with a hard rubber too...
I put V15 Extra MAX on both sides, which I'd been using for about 2 months.It was too hard and the ball just flew off on its own.
That said, in topspin rallies I could hit some seriously nasty balls, unlike anything before!That felt great lol

It's got speed, bounce, and distance for days. The dwell time is short, so soft rubbers suit it best.
It's best used from mid-to-far from the table. With a blade that doesn't have much bounce, your shots tend to land shallow and give your opponent an easy ball, but with the Timo Boll ALC you can aim deep and keep your opponent from doing what they want.
The attacking power is insane too. You can hit the kind of smash that really finishes a point. It's a cannon.
That said, blocking and attacking close to the table is tough. It bounces so much that shots often fly off the table. You need solid control skills for that.
In the end, I never got used to this blade. The control was too difficult. I think it's because I only practice once a week. I was using max thickness rubber, but maybe medium thickness would actually suit it better. This is just my opinion, but to really improve with this blade you need to practice at least 3 times a week. I'd recommend it to people who are confident in their control and can practice often. I can't recommend it to people who only practice about once a week.
Next time I'll learn my lesson and try the Innerforce Layer ALC instead.

I took the plunge and switched from wood, but I was able to handle it without any trouble. I currently have Kiryu on my forehand, and it's nicely balanced. That said, since it's still an outer blade, if you don't put solid spin on the ball with your racket face, there are definitely times the ball flies off long. This might just be my own lack of skill, but I felt it doesn't pair all that well with tacky rubber. If you're putting rubber on this, I think Rakza or the Tenergy line work well.
