The Timo Boll ALC is the blade of choice for the European Triple Champion, Timo Boll. Timo working with Butterfly’s technicians, helped design his new blade which offers a touch more speed than his previous model but still allows for the production of the heavy topspin strokes Timo is known for.
Using his new blade along with Butterfly’s new Tenergy rubbers, Timo successfully defended all three of his Titles at the 2008 European Championships. Timo plays fair and wins and so can you. The Timo Boll ALC offers the maximum blend of speed, heavy spin, and Control.

This is a switch from a 5-ply blade. First off, it has a lot of bounce. It felt a bit hard to handle at first since it's different from the 5-ply where you're hitting with just your own power — now there's carbon adding extra force — but I think it's fine once you get used to it. I felt like serves didn't get as much spin. The spin amount is like one notch down from a wood blade. At first you'll wonder "is this even spinning?" but it's actually spinning decently, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you feel like you're not getting spin, it might also be a good idea to aim for counters, ready in case you get hit back. Counters are also pretty easy to pull off with this. Lastly, there's topspin drives with both hands. On the forehand, you get both spin and speed for a good drive. The backhand drive is stable and goes in on a pretty straight line, so my scoring rate on the backhand went up. It's a pretty expensive blade price-wise, but if you have a feel for putting spin on the ball, I think you can make good use of it. I don't think you'll regret trying this blade.

I bought it because it's so popular.
To cut to the conclusion:
it's basically the Viscaria.
At first I thought they seemed similar, so I looked into it, and
apparently the blade is exactly the same!
Wow, that was surprising!
So while the Timo Boll ALC is known for pairing well with Tenergy 05,
it also pairs well with tacky rubber!

A friend of mine was using this, so here's my review.
Carbon blades really do have a lot of pop, don't they. I'd heard ALC was on the more controlled side,
but coming from someone who's only ever used pure wood blades, this still feels like a blade with a lot of bounce.
I don't think people who like tacky rubber should pick this one. It doesn't suit tacky rubber very well.
Tension rubbers are the way to go after all.
I think Tenergy works well — that's the combo my friend was using, and apparently it's "spin-focused."
This blade really depends a lot on your arm/skill.
If you pick it up for a lightweight reason like "I just like Timo Boll," you'll regret it...Overall Speed Spin Control Touch Hardness little hard

Compared to the Jun Mizutani ZLC, the feel is somewhat softer, but I think it's a blade with very similar characteristics.
The blade itself doesn't really flex.
I think it's a fairly universally likable blade.
As for rubber, just weigh the weight against your wallet and go with whatever you like.
Mine weighed 86g for the blade alone.

This is a comparison with the Timo Boll Spirit.
It's slightly harder than the Spirit, and also lighter. The balance point seems to be more toward the middle-to-grip side.
From here on, this is the actual review.
My first impression was that it flies in a straight line. Being an outer ALC blade, it really flies. So it should pair well with rubbers that produce more of an arc (like Hurricane, Tenergy 05, etc.). The grip is squared off, so you can hold it firmly. That naturally makes the backhand more stable. The blade shape is the same as the Viscaria and the Zhang Jike blade. The handle also feels calm in the hand.
