TENERGY 05 has a unique feeling using a combination of Spring Sponge technology, High Tension rubber and a tacky surface. It is excellent for imparting a great deal of spin on the ball. 05 in the name was adopted from Pimples Code No. 5. Tenergy 05 enables a full range of topspin play at or away from the table. It keeps its explosive power throughout the life of the rubber without the use of speed glue or boosting. Tenergy 05 is very popular among world-class table tennis players. European Champion Timo Boll uses Tenergy 05 on forehand and backhand.

It's a great rubber
That said, I never really got that feeling of "the spin just happens on its own." If you don't swing through properly, the rubber is stiff enough that the ball just drops. But when you do swing through, the ball that comes out is absolutely nasty.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

You can ignore the price since I bought this on Mercari
My impression of Tenergy is that it gets a lot of spin and flies really well, but it's not a rubber I'd recommend for beginners. If you start out with Tenergy right away, since Tenergy itself already puts a lot of spin on the ball, you'll struggle to get the same spin out of other tension rubbers afterward, so I can't recommend it to beginners.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Soft

I currently use the Tenergy 05 on my backhand
My first impression was, "hmm, this is a bit hard." If you're already using a slightly harder rubber like G-1, it probably won't bother you much, but it is fairly hard.
Also, the lifespan is just really short no matter what. If you used it on the forehand, I'd guess it'd barely last a month.
If you feel like it's still a bit early for you to use Tenergy, I'd recommend starting with something like Super Ventus or Rozena first.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard

I tried out the Tenergy 05 and it bounces quite a lot — it's an amazing rubber that completely overturned everything I knew from my old rubbers. The topspin drive is really fast and spins a lot, so even when your opponent blocks it they often send it long, which makes it highly recommended. That said, even with the 05 the spin amount stays pretty constant, so you'll want to adjust the spin yourself through your own technique.

Bought this for chopping, using it on the forehand
Topspin drive
Both the spin and control are amazing, though the speed wasn't quite as much as I expected

I couldn't fully use Dignics so I went back to this one (forehand). Guess that rubber really needs some skill...
Enough with the preamble, on to the review.
After actually using it, I feel like I understand why it's still so popular even though it's been out for quite a while.
The bounce is good and it gets plenty of spin. Serves bite well, and it stops nicely for the short game too. (as long as you have the skill, haha)
It really feels like it can do just about anything, lol

At this point, there's at least one person using this rubber at every tournament you go to. The whole Tenergy line is high-level, but this particular rubber is the peak of them all — a godly rubber that even top players swear by!!
It's the top of the top among all rubbers. Apparently it wasn't shining quite this much back in the glue era.
I think it really took off the moment the glue era ended and Kenta Matsudaira started using it.
Colonel Palm has said something like, "With the Spring Sponge you can hit with 70% effort, and even though the lifespan is short and it's expensive, it's worth trying at least once."
And it's true, when you actually hit with it you can produce a good ball without putting in much effort, and it fits with pretty much any blade. [Though it might not suit slow, control-oriented blades like the Gensyu Mamoru]
Anyway, I really think it's worth trying at least once. That said, if you don't want to come off as "that guy who's strong," I'd recommend using Rozena instead. A lot of people think "Tenergy = what strong players use," so if you're going to use it, I'd go with the FX version.All Speed Spin Control Hardness Little hard
